Rubbing plates are double sided plastic plates, with each side producing somewhat different effects. They can be used as texture for a variety of techniques, including rubbings with paintstiks, transfer crayons or water color; foiling; gelatin prints; impressions in clay and more. Twelve techniques using rubbing plates are described in the book Rubbing Plate Roundup by Shelly Stokes.
