Stencil Mini Quilt Gallery by Laura Murray
This gallery of little quilts is the result of my wanting to illustrate a finished project using
my stencil collection as the focal design. Measuring between 12" and 16" on each side, they are fun and easy to
do. I liked adding beads for just a bit of sparkle to many of the designs, and ended up adding to my bead
collection in the process. If you decide to try this approach, take your stenciled project to the bead store
to match color. Purchase beading thread such as silamide (ordinary sewing thread will fray over time as the
edges round the bead hole will rub against the thread and cause it to fray). Small quilting needles may be
your best choice for sewing through the tiny beads — beading needles are very long, and can be hard to get
through fabric. My little quilts are NOT machine quilted — I decided to stitch in the ditch by hand
because machine quilting just didn't seem to achieve the affect I wanted.
I invite you to explore, and enjoy the process of creating your own special mini quilts.
